Nitin Gadkari inaugurates, lays foundation stone of National Highway Projects in Haryana

  • On July 14, the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Highway projects which will lay a new economic corridor in Haryana.
  •  The projects are worth over Rs. 20,000 crores.

Projects inaugurated by the Union Minister:

  • The 4 lane Rohna/Hasangarh to Jhajjar section of NH 334B which is of 35.45 km and costs Rs. 1183 crore.
  • The 70 km 4-lane of Punjab Haryana border to Jind Section of NH 71, it costs Rs. 857 crores.
  • 2-lane with paved shoulders Jind-Karnal Highway of 85.36 km on NH 709 which costs Rs. 200 crore.

Projects for foundation stone laying include:

  • The 227 km 6-lane access controlled Greenfield expressway from Ismailpur to Narnaul on NH 152D in 8 packages costing Rs 8650 crore,
  • The 46 km 4-lane Gurugram Pataudi-Rewari section of NH 352W costing Rs 1524 crore,
  • The 14.4 km 4-lane Rewari Byepass costing Rs 928 crore, the 30.45 km 4-lane Rewari-Ateli Mandi section of NH 11 costing Rs 1057 crore,
  • The 40.8 km 6-lane Narnaul Byepass on NH 148B, NH 11 and Narnaul to Ateli Mandi section of NH 11 costing Rs 1380 crore,
  • The 40.6 km 4-lane Jind-Gohana (Pkg 1, Greenfield alignment) of NH 352A costing Rs 1207 crore, the 38.23 km 4-lane Gohana-Sonipat section of NH 352A costing Rs 1502 crore,
  • The 40.47 km 4-lane UP-Haryana Border to Roha on NH 334B costing Rs 1509 crore.

Madhya Pradesh tagged as the topper in implementing PM Svanidhi scheme

  • Madhya Pradesh has topped among the other states in the implementation of PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) which aims to boost street vendors.
  • About PM SVANidhi PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) is a Special Micro-Credit Facility for Street Vendors to help them in continuing their business. It also offers interest free working capital of Rs 10,000 for one year. Under the scheme, interest subsidy of 7% on loan amount will be borne by the Central Government while the remaining amount will be borne by the State Government.

  • Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Girish Chandra Murmu has e-inaugurated 15 important infrastructural projects of School Education Department to boost education sector

Iran drops India from Chabahar Rail Project due to funding delay

  • Iran has dropped India from the Chabahar rail project, for the construction of railway line from Chabahar port to Zahedan, along the Iran-Afghanistan border.
  • The reason that Iran gave for dropping India was delays from the Indian side in funding and starting the construction of the project.
  • Iran has now decided to move ahead with the construction of Chabahar railway line to Zahedan on its own.
  • For this $400 million will be sanctioned by the Iranian National Development Fund and the entire project will be completed by March 2022, without any assistance from India.
  • It must be noted that this decision has been taken by Iran at a time when it is seeking to finalise a 25-year economic and security partnership with China worth $400 billion.

‘Digital Choupal’ campaign started by NABARD on its 39th foundation day

  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has celebrated its 39th  Foundation day on 12th July
  • NABARD has organized its first “digital choupal”, a video conference which brought together farmers from across the country who have been associated with NABARD in different rural projects.
  • NABARD has also announced Rs 5,000 crore of refinance scheme for banks and financial institutions for providing finance to the beneficiaries of its 2,150 watershed development projects and also earmarked another Rs 5,000 crore for turning Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), into multi service centres.

ISRO Chief K Sivan to be Conferred with 2020 Von Karman Award By IAA

  • ISRO Chief Dr Kailasavadivoo Sivan has been named as the winner of the 2020 Von Karman Award by the Paris-based International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).
  • The award will be conferred upon K Sivan in March 2021 in Paris.
  • Prior to K Sivan, only two Indians have been the recipients of this award. They were Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan and U.R. Rao.

Mohun Bagan Ratna Award 2020 Conferred to Gurbux Singh and Palash Nandy

China successfully launches APSTAR-6D telecommunication satellite

  • China successfully sent a commercial telecommunication satellite, known as APSTAR-6D, into a planned orbit from the southwestern Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
  • The APSTAR-6D telecommunication satellite was launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket. It was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
  • The geostationary satellite, APSTAR-6D is the first satellite of China’s global, high-throughput broadband satellite communication system that will form a space-wide Internet communication network covering the whole world, similar to GPS.

National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide a credit support to Bengal in Coronavirus Crisis

  • To fight with the COVID-19 pandemic, National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide a credit support of Rs 1,607 crore to West Bengal.
  • The help was provided through state cooperative banks, regional rural banks and micro-finance institutions.
  • Of the total credit flow, Rs 145 crore was given under the Rural Infrastructure and Development Fund (RIDF) to boost infrastructure in the country-side during the pandemic.

A Project worth Rs 44 lakhs is launched by NABARD in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

  • In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, NABARD has launched development projects worth rupees 44 lakhs in order to strengthen the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat through rural entrepreneurship.
  • It includes the formation and development of Self-Help Groups, SHGs. The skill development of SHGs members will be taken up to promote rural entrepreneurship at the micro-level.
  • NABARD will conduct 385 village-level programmes and provide training to leaders of newly Shri Shripad Naik inaugurated the conference on Defence Manufacturing Technologies and Aerospace.

Google will acquire 7.7 percent stake in Jio Platforms

  • Google will acquire a 7.7% stake in Jio Platforms worth Rs 33,737 crore.
  • For Google, this is the “first and biggest investment” from the recently announced $10-billion India fund by its CEO Sundar Pichai.
  • The two companies will jointly develop an operating system for an entry-level smartphone that will support 5G and target India’s 350 million feature-phone users.

To help teachers to run online classes, Google partners with CBSE

  • Google announced that it is partnering with CBSE, an Indian schooling body, to help 1mn teachers run online classes by year end.
  • Google will help teachers from 22,000 schools across India to conduct classes online through tools such as YouTube, Google Classrooms, and GSuite.
  • These tools will be available in eight Indian languages including Hindi & Gujarati.
