Japan and Australia have inked a ‘landmark’ defence agreement in a bid to counter China’s growing influence in the South China Sea and over the Pacific island nations.
The deal named Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) was inked between Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison.
Physicist Masatoshi Koshiba, who won the 2002 Nobel prize for the detection of cosmic neutrinos, passed away.
Koshiba’s most famous contribution involved detecting neutrinos from a distant supernova explosion using a vast detector based in a mine in central Japan.
15 Asia Pacific countries have signed the world’s biggest free trade deal, led by China, on the sidelines of the 37th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
