  • Google is also bringing Assignments, an application for learning management system (LMS), which will help the teachers to analyze, distribute and grade the work of students.

BlackRock, a new Android malware has been discovered

  • New Android malware has been discovered that steals data such as credit card details, password from 337 applications.
  • The malware is being distributed using fake Google update packages offered on third party websites.
  • The malware is based on the leaked source code of another malware Xerxes. Again, Xerxes is based on the strains of other malwares.
  • The Malware asks for credit card details and login credentials before the user enters the app. It asks for the phone’s accessibility feature. It then uses Android DPC to access the admin.

To help teachers to run online classes, Google partners with CBSE

  • Google announced that it is partnering with CBSE, an Indian schooling body, to help 1mn teachers run online classes by year end.
  • Google will help teachers from 22,000 schools across India to conduct classes online through tools such as YouTube, Google Classrooms, and GSuite.
  • These tools will be available in eight Indian languages including Hindi & Gujarati.

Google will acquire 7.7 percent stake in Jio Platforms

  • Google will acquire a 7.7% stake in Jio Platforms worth Rs 33,737 crore.
  • For Google, this is the “first and biggest investment” from the recently announced $10-billion India fund by its CEO Sundar Pichai.
  • The two companies will jointly develop an operating system for an entry-level smartphone that will support 5G and target India’s 350 million feature-phone users.

Google Plans to Invest Rs. 75,000 crore in India in the next 5-7 years to boost Digital India

  • Technology giant Google will invest Rs. 75,000 crore (around $10 billion), in India over the next 5-7 years to boost India’s digital economy
  • This announcement was made by Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai at the sixth edition of ‘Google for India’ virtual event on 13 July 2020.
  • The dedicated ‘Google for India Digitisation Fund’, will be deployed for this purpose.
  • The investments will be made through a mix of equity investments, partnerships, and operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments.

The main focus of the Investments will be on four key areas:

  • Enabling affordable access and information to every Indian in their own language,
  • Building new products and services relevant to India’s unique needs
  • Empowering businesses as they continue to embark in digital transformation
  • Leveraging technology and Artificial Intelligence for social good in areas like healthcare, education and agriculture.
