ADB authorizes $190 million loan to upgrade power distribution in Bengaluru

  • The Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a loan of $190 million (approx Rs 1,400 crore) to modernize and upgrade the power distribution system in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
  • The financial-assistance by ADB will be used for the Bengaluru Smart Energy Efficient Power Distribution Project.

  • The Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute in Bengaluru have been identified after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • The institute was established up in 2018-19 on the campus of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar in the heart of Bengaluru.

  • The Institute for Management Development (IMD) and Singapore University for Technology and Design (SUTD) has jointly released the 2020 Smart City Index. 
  • Indian City, Hyderabad was placed at the 85th Position, New Delhi was placed at 86th Rank, Mumbai was ranked at 93rd Place and Bengaluru was at 95th Position.
  • The Index was topped by Singapore, followed by Helsinki and Zurich in the second and the third place respectively.

First RORO Train flagged off from Bengaluru to Solapur

  • The first ever Roll-On/Roll-Off (RO-RO) train between Bengaluru (Nelamangala) to Solapur (Maharashtra) flagged off by the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. It will cover a distance of 682 km.

Karnataka to set up integrated biotech and life sciences park in Bengaluru

  • Rs 5,000 crore worth life sciences park to be set up in Bengaluru with an aim to generate employment for 50,000 people.
  • The project is being set up under a public-private partnership with the government of Karnataka and private entity Labzone Corp.
  • The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by December 2022. It will be spread across 9 million square feet in Bengaluru electronic city. 52.27 acres has been allotted.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the new Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Production Hangar at Helicopter Division in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Complex at Bengaluru, Karnataka. LCH is a 5.5-tonne class combat helicopter designed and developed by HAL.
