Indian Navy starts ‘Operation Samudra Setu’ to repatriate Indians from overseas

  • The Indian Navy on 5TH May started ‘Operation Samudra Setu’ (meaning ‘Sea Bridge’), as a part of national effort to repatriate Indian citizens from overseas amid lockdown. 
  • Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa and Magar are currently en route to the port of Male in the Maldives to begin evacuation operations from May 8 as part of Phase-1.

  • Jharkhand government on 4th May started three schemes under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in a bid to “strengthen the rural economy”.
  • Birsa Harit Gram Yojana for rural plantations: Under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, over two lakh acres of land will be utilized for afforestation.
  • Jal Sammridhi Yojna: Under the Jal Sammridhi Yojna, water storage units will be built to save rainwater and runaway groundwater.
  • Veer SahidPotoHoKhelVikas Scheme: Under the playground scheme, the government targets to make 5,000 grounds, with at least one in one Panchayat.
