  • Madhya pradesh government has launched “jivan Shakti Yojna” that allows women to earn some extra income by creating masks at there home. Government will purchase they at the rate of Rs 11 per piece and supply them to those in need during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Special borrowing scheme for SHGs launched by IOB.

  • Indian Overseas Bank has launched a special Borrowing scheme for the Self Help Groups (SHGs) that are having good track record and a history of minimum two loans from IOB. 
  • This facility can be availed till June 30, 2020 only by those SHGs whose existing loans are standard and performing as on March 1, 2020.

NTPC launches Hydrogen-powered cars and buses in Leh and New Delhi

  • National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. has launched Hydrogen fuel based cars and buses in Leh and New Delhi that will prove very beneficial in reducing carbon emissions into the environment.
  • This project got implemented under the Supervision and guidance of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Indian runner Jhuma Khatun banned for doping.

  • India’s middle distance runner Jhuma Khatun tests positive for dehydrochloromethyl testosterone, a steroid. Due to this she has been banned for four years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics.
  • She was tested positive by National Anti Doping Agency (NADA)

India’s first plasma therapy starts in KGMU, Lucknow

  • King George’s medical University (KGMU) of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has become the first institute in the country to start  using plasma therapy for the possible treatment of COVID-19.
  • Plasma therapy uses antibodies from the patients’ that have successfully recovered from the COVID-19 and transplanting them in the patient that is not abe to generate anti bodies to recover from this deadly virus.

SIPRI releases “Trends in World Military Expenditure, 2019” report.

  • Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has released a report ” Trends in World Military Expenditure, 2019” which states that in 2019 the total military expenditure all over the world was 2% of the Global Gross Domestic Product(GDP).
  • Top 5 spenders in 2019: United States ($732 billion), China ($261 Billion), India ($71.1 Billion), Russia ($65.1 Billion) and Saudi Arabia ( $61.9 Billion).

No death penalty for minors in Saudi Arabia

  • Saudi Arabia has passed a new order that abolishes death penalty for the minors committing serious crimes. Instead of being executed, they will be getting prisonment for a maximum period of 10 years as announced by president of Saudi government’s Human Rights Commission, Awwad Alawwad.
