G-20 launches a new initiative to fight COVID-19

  • G-20 has launched a new initiative “Access to COVID-19 tools accelerator” under Saudi Arabia. The aim of this initiative is to make sure the availability of all tools necessary to fight COVID-19 to all the members countries.

ADB to provide a loan of $1 Billion to India for COVID-19

  • Asian development Bank(ADB) has signed a loan agreement with Government of India (GoI) of $1 Billion that will be utilized to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Govt. will focus on providing food security, medical kits and other essential equipments like ventilators, PPE kits etc.

Germany hosts 11th session of Petersberg Climate Dialogue virtually

  • Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate change, Prakash Javadekar attended the 11th session of Petersberg Climate Dialogue virtually hosted by Germany and co-hosted by United Kingdom.

Australia cancels the “Pitch Black 2020” air-combat exercise.

  • Australia has cancelled the multilateral air combat training exercise between India and Australia” Pitch Black 2020” due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has already affected more than 190 countries all over the world. This was informed by Air Marshal Meg Hupfeld, Chief of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), in a letter to Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, in mid-April.
  • Last edition was held in 2018 and next edition is scheduled to be held in 2022.

Andhra Pradesh govt starts “Jagananna Vidya Deevena Scheme” for fee reimbursement

  • Andhra Pradesh government has launched Jagananna Vidya Deevena Scheme  which was earlier known as the fee reimbursement scheme
  • This scheme will  help the financially poor families whose children are prsuing or going to purse their college studies. Rs. 4900 cr has been allocated for this scheme.

India’s legendary actor Irrfan Khan passed away.

  • India’s most loved and legendary actor Irrfan Khan passed away at the age of 53 years. He passed away due to the Neuroendocrine tumor. 
  • He was awarded Padma Shri in 2011 by the then president Pratibha Devi Singh Patil. He also won Filmfare award in 2004, 2008, 2013 and 2018.

Bharti Airtel and Nokia sign pact to improve network connectivity
