India beckons UK’s Johnson as 2021 Republic Day chief guest

  • United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson is assumed to be the chief guest at 2021 Republic day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inviting him.
  • Johnson, on his part, has invited PM Modi to the G-7 summit in the United Kingdom following year. The last British prime minister at the Republic Day parade was John Major in 1993.

  • The event will present the tribal traditions of the various tribal communities by having their crafts and natural products on display.

  • The Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal has introduced the newly electrified Dhigawara-Bandikui section of North Western Railway (NWR) in the state of Rajasthan.
  • The Minister also flagged off the first train on this recently electrified route. The Dhigawara-Bandikui section is on the Delhi-Ajmer route via Jaipur.

  • Sahakar Pragya is an initiative of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), to assist in the capacity development of the cooperative sector in India, through the training programme.

  • The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar virtually initiated Honey Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) Programme in five states, for producing honey.
  • These 5 FPOs will be set up by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED). They will be set up at East Champaran (Bihar), Morena (Madhya Pradesh), Bharatpur (Rajasthan), Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) and Sunderbans (West Bengal).

  • The construction cost of these infra projects is approximated to be around Rs 7477 crore.

  • The Union Territory of Ladakh has made the largest solar power project established under the Centre’s ‘Make In India’ initiative at Leh IAF station to give sustainable energy alternative to fossil fuel and traditional methods of energy generation.
  • The project namely ‘Provision of Solar Photo Voltaic Powerplant 1.5 MW’ has been completed within 12 months well before the completion deadline of March 31, 2021.
