Jin Liqun re-elected president of AIIB

  • The board of governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), elected Jin Liqun for a second term as President.
  • His second five-year term will begin on January 16, 2021.

Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković re-elected

  • Andrej Plenković re-elected as Prime Minister of Croatia. Plenković was the prime minister of the previous government which was also led by his Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party.

Hichem Mechichi designated as new Prime minister Tunisia

  • Tunisian president Kais Saied designated Hichem Mechichi as the country’s new prime minister. 
  • Mechihi succeeds Elyes Fakhfakh, who resigned last week. 
  • Mechichi is an independent in the parliament and served as interior minister under Fakhfakh. He has also served as legal advisor to the president.

Mr. Sahil Seth selected as an honorary advisor for BRICS CCI

  • The Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Customs and a 2011 batch Indian Revenue Service Officer, Mr. Sahil Seth, has been selected as an honorary advisor for the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) for the duration 2020 to 2030.

Ossouka Raponda appointed as the first woman Prime Minister of Gabon

  • Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda has been appointed as the first woman prime minister of Gabon on 16 July 2020.
  • The 56-year-old is the 12th PM of the country and succeeds Julien Nkoghe Bekale.
  • Prior to holding this position, Ossouka Raponda served as defense minister since February 2019

CPJ’s 2020 International Press Freedom Awarded to Four Journalists

  • Four Journalists have been named as the recipients of the 2020 International Press Freedom Awards by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based non-profit organisation to promote press freedom and defend the rights of journalists.
  • All these four journalists have faced arrests or criminal prosecution for their reporting.
  • The 30th edition of the annual International Press Freedom Award will be presented to the winners on November 19, 2020 to honor journalists or their publications around the world who show courage in defending press freedom despite facing attacks, threats, or imprisonment.

  • Mohammad Mosaed from Iran,
  • Dapo Olorunyomi from Nigeria and
  • Svetlana Prokopyeva from Russia.
  • Apart from this, Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney has been honoured with the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award.
