The Abel Prize Laureates 2020 declared

The Abel Prize Laureates 2020
  • The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters nominated Hillel Furstenberg from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel and Gregory Margulis from Yale University, the USA as winners of the Abel Prize 2020.
  • They are honored for their “pioneering use of methods from probability & dynamics in group theory, number theory, and combinatorics”.

  • Arfa Khanum Sherwani of “The Wire” and Bengaluru-based freelancer Rohini Mohan have been jointly honored Chameli Devi Jain Award for outstanding woman journalist.
  • Sherwani was nominated for her reporting from conflict situations in Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh and Mohan’s reportage on the NRC exercise in Assam set a new benchmark for investigative journalism.
  • The jury comprised political scientist Zoya Hasan, journalists Sreenivasan Jain & Manoj Mitta.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh named greatest world leader in BBC Poll

Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Maharaja Ranjit Singh has been named as the “Greatest Leader of All Time” in a poll conducted by ‘BBC World Histories Magazine’. He was the 19th-century ruler of the Sikh Empire in India. Singh’s name was selected by Lockwood, who is an assistant professor of history at the University of Alabama, as a modernizing and uniting force, whose reign “marked a golden age for Punjab and north-west India”.

Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao has honored with the 7th Dr MS Swaminathan Award. He has got the award for the period 2017-2019. He has been awarded for his contributions in the fields of agricultural research, teaching, extension and administration. Praveen Rao handled 13 research & 6 consultancy projects on micro-irrigation in India, Israel and South Africa.

The 4th edition of TOISA (Times of India Sports Awards) awards appreciated the best Indian in 2019 sports in New Delhi, India. The event was sponsored by BHIM-UPI (Bharat Interface for Money- Unified Payments Interface). Rohit Sharma was named as the Cricketer of the year and PV Sindhu was declared as the Sportsperson of the year as she won gold at the World Championships in Basel, Switzerland.
