  • National Vaccination Day is celebrated every year on 16th March 2020.
  • This day is observed throughout India to spread awareness and the importance of getting timely vaccinations.
  • This day was first celebrated in 1995 and the first dose of Oral Polio Vaccine was given in India.
  • On March 27, 2014, the World Health Organization(WHO) declared India a polio-free country.

Justice Bansi Lal Bhat got selected as officiating chairperson of NCLAT for 3 months

  • On March 14, 2020, According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India (GoI), Justice (Retd.) Bansi Lal Bhat has been selected as the officiating Chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) for a period of 3 months with effect from March 15, 2020 or until a regular Chairperson is appointed, whichever is earlier.
  • The government has also selected Justice (Retd.) Anant Bijay Singh as a Judicial Member of  NCLAT & Ms. Shreesha Merla and Mr. Alok Srivastava as Technical Members.

RBI revises exposure limits for urban cooperative banks to single, group borrowers

  • On March 13, 2020, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revised exposure limits for urban cooperative banks (UCBs) of tier-1 capital to a single borrower to 15% and a group of borrowers to 25%.
  • The revised exposure limits shall be applicable to all types of fresh exposures received by UCBs.
  • The RBI had earlier allowed UCBs to have exposures up to 15% and 40% of their capital funds to a single borrower and a group of borrowers, respectively.

Phool Dei festival was observed in Uttarakhand

  • On March 14, 2020 Uttarakhand Chief Minister (CM) Trivendra Singh Rawat celebrated the traditional harvest festival “Phool Dei”.
  • The festival also showcases the inner bonding between the communities who all are residing in the hills.
  • It is the harvest festival of Uttarakhand that is celebrated in the month of Chaitra (March- April) in the Hindu Calendar.

CRPF inks MoU with Aditya mehta foundation to train its specially-abled troops in areas of cyber security & AI

  • On March 13, 2020, The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF),a non-profit organization which helps people with disabilities to pursue sports, to train its 189 CRPF personnel who had lost their limbs in operations in areas of cyber security, artificial intelligence (AI) and paralympic sports.
  • The agreement inked in the presence of CRPF’s Director General (DG) AP Maheshwari, will help create newer opportunities for such personnel to continue as the integral part of the force.

Scientists at ARCI- Hyderabad emeges ‘solar receiver tube technology’ for industrial process heat
  • On March 13, 2020, Scientists at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad (Telangana), has emerged a cost-effective ‘solar receiver tube technology’ that absorbs solar radiation and transforms it into heat for the targeted applications, especially in industries.
  • ARCI has filed 2 patent applications for this technology, and also signed an MoU(Memorandum of understanding) with Greenera Energy India Private Limited for technology transfer, that aims to develop the solar receiver tube for wider market absorption.

Newly Discovered insect species named after singer Lady Gaga

  • On March 11, 2020 A newly discovered species of treehopper has been named “Kaikaia Gaga” after American singer Lady Gaga.
  • The species was named by Brendan Morris, PhD candidate in entomology from University of IllinoisUnited States (US).
  • The species were found near the Pacific coast of Nicaragua and the species seems to be beautiful, vibrant as pop diva, have crazy horns with wacky fashion sense.

  • On March 14, 2020 Government selected former Chief Financial Officer & deputy Managing Director(MD) of SBI Prashant Kumar as MD & Chief Financial Officer(CEO), the former Punjab National Bank(PNB) MD Sunil Mehta as Non-Executive Chairman, Mahesh Krishnamurthy & Atul Bheda as non-executive directors of the reconstructed board of Yes Bank.
  • State Bank of India (SBI), which has a 49 % stake in Yes Bank, will nominate 2 directors & Reserve Bank could select one or more additional directors.

  • On March 13, 2020 The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) declared  that the ‘Bhoomi Rashi’ portal has significantly increased the process of land acquisition for National Highways project.
  • Bhoomi Rashi portal: MoRTH has released the portal BhoomiRashi on April 1, 2018.
  • In past, the acquisition of land for the purpose of National Highway projects, payment of compensation to the land owners were done manually & the physical movement of documents were in the form of files.

Assam Government to build 33 stadiums under Uttaran scheme

  • The Assam Government plans to build 33 stadiums across the state under the Uttaran Scheme, 300 crores will be given to construct these stadiums declared by Principal Secretary of Sports Avinash Joshi and Joint Director Kamaljit and 500 playgrounds are being built to encourage rural talents.
  • The Government has finalized to provide an amount of Rs.50,000 to 1000 players and Rs.75,000 will be given to 2500 clubs.

  • The Station name has been renamed to Nana Shankarsheth Central Railway Station because of his involvement in the making of Indian Railway association and the one to bring railways to our country India.

GoI pledged $10 million for Covid-19 emergency fund

  • Government of India has pledged $10 million towards a Covid-19 emergency fund. India has also prepared a rapid response team of doctors and specialists for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) nations.
  • India suggested Integrated Disease Surveillance Portal (IDSP) that is recently being used to detect infected patients and contact tracing.

India’s 1st Living Culinary Arts Museum enters Limca Book of Records

  • Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) entered the Limca Book of Records (LBR) for establishing “India’s First Living Culinary Arts Museum” at WGSHA, Manipal, Karnataka.
