  • One of the eminent historian and author Ronald Vivian Smith , also known as RV Smith passed away at the age of 82. He was born in Agra.
  • His mains interests were history, antiquity, Egyptology, mysticism and the occult.He was a recipient of the Canon Holland Prize and the Rotary Award for general knowledge and the journalism award from the Michael Madhusudan Academy in Kolkata (1997-1998)

NASA’s first Mars helicopter “Ingenuity” named by Indian-origin girl Vaneeza Rupani

  • Indian Origin girl from Alabama has named the first helicopter “Ingenuity” that will be launched to the Red planet this summer with  National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Mars rover Perseverance .
  • She participated in “Name the rover ” contest held by NASA to name the rover Perseverance 
  • It is expected to land on Mars in February 2021. It will be launched along with rover Perseverance as part of the Mars Mission 2020.

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune develops sterilizer “ATULYA”

  • Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune has developed a microwave steriliser “ATULYA” that can disintegrate the novel coronavirus COVID-19 using differential heating in the range of 56 degree to 60 degree celsius.
  • DIAT is a deemed university under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

Professor Shobhana Narasimhan elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

  • Professor Shobhana Narasimhan from the Theoretical Sciences Unit (TSU) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), has been elected as an International Honorary Member to the American Academy of Arts and Science.
  • She has done significant work on the rational design of nanomaterials, examining how the lowering of dimensionality and reduction of size affect material properties.

  • AYURAKHSA programme has been launched by All India Institute of Ayurveda(AIIA) laong with AYUSH ministry and Delhi Police to boost immunity of people during the period of pandemic COVID-19.
  • The slogan is ““Corona Se Jung: Delhi Police Ke Sang”. Free immunity booster kits will be distributed to delhi police as well.

Manipur and Gorakhpur, UP gets new GI tags

  • Chak-Hao, the black rice of Manipur and the Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh’s terracotta have bagged the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Chak-Hao, a scented glutinous rice has been in cultivation in Manipur over centuries. It has also been used by traditional medical practitioners as part of traditional medicine. 
  • The terracotta work of Gorakhpur is a centuries-old traditional art form, where the potters make various animal figures like, horses, elephants, camel, goat, ox, etc. with hand-applied ornamentation.Some of the major products of craftsmanship include the Hauda elephants, Mahawatdar horse, deer, camel, five-faced Ganesha, singled-faced Ganesha, elephant table, chandeliers, hanging bells etc.

ICC bans Deepak Aggarwal for breaching Anti-corruption code

  • International Cricket Council (ICC) has booked Deepak Aggarwal, Cricketer from Sonipat, Haryana from all forms of cricket for breaching ICC Anti-Corruption Code for a period of 2 years.
  • He  came on Dubai’s ICC anti-corruption unit’s radar because of his suspicious movement during a game in Abu Dhabi.

Vikas Abhaya loan scheme launched by KVG Bank

  • Karnataka Vikas Grameena bank (KVG Bank) has launched Vikas Abhaya Scheme to support Micro , Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India that have been affected due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The loan will be for the existing MSME customers who have been regular as on February 29. A maximum loan of up to 1 lakh will be provided and no collateral security will be insisted upon. The loan is repayable within 36 months,

Giridhar Aramane appointed as secretary to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

Social worker and Padma Shri awardee Hema Bharali passed away

  • Padma Shree Gandhian, freedom fighter and a social worker Hema Bharali passed away at the age of 101.  The then President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam gave away the National Communal Harmony Award-2005 to  Ms. Hema Bharali, in New Delhi on May 1, 2006.
  •  She is known for her contributions for the empowerment of women and efforts towards the upliftment of the socially and financially challenged sections of the society.
