China successfully launches APSTAR-6D telecommunication satellite

  • China successfully sent a commercial telecommunication satellite, known as APSTAR-6D, into a planned orbit from the southwestern Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
  • The APSTAR-6D telecommunication satellite was launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket. It was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
  • The geostationary satellite, APSTAR-6D is the first satellite of China’s global, high-throughput broadband satellite communication system that will form a space-wide Internet communication network covering the whole world, similar to GPS.

National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide a credit support to Bengal in Coronavirus Crisis

  • To fight with the COVID-19 pandemic, National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide a credit support of Rs 1,607 crore to West Bengal.
  • The help was provided through state cooperative banks, regional rural banks and micro-finance institutions.
  • Of the total credit flow, Rs 145 crore was given under the Rural Infrastructure and Development Fund (RIDF) to boost infrastructure in the country-side during the pandemic.

A Project worth Rs 44 lakhs is launched by NABARD in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

  • In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, NABARD has launched development projects worth rupees 44 lakhs in order to strengthen the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat through rural entrepreneurship.
  • It includes the formation and development of Self-Help Groups, SHGs. The skill development of SHGs members will be taken up to promote rural entrepreneurship at the micro-level.
  • NABARD will conduct 385 village-level programmes and provide training to leaders of newly Shri Shripad Naik inaugurated the conference on Defence Manufacturing Technologies and Aerospace.

HSBC to set up IFSC Banking Unit at GIFT city in Gandhinagar

Google will acquire 7.7 percent stake in Jio Platforms

  • Google will acquire a 7.7% stake in Jio Platforms worth Rs 33,737 crore.
  • For Google, this is the “first and biggest investment” from the recently announced $10-billion India fund by its CEO Sundar Pichai.
  • The two companies will jointly develop an operating system for an entry-level smartphone that will support 5G and target India’s 350 million feature-phone users.

To help teachers to run online classes, Google partners with CBSE

  • Google announced that it is partnering with CBSE, an Indian schooling body, to help 1mn teachers run online classes by year end.
  • Google will help teachers from 22,000 schools across India to conduct classes online through tools such as YouTube, Google Classrooms, and GSuite.
  • These tools will be available in eight Indian languages including Hindi & Gujarati.

AAI & BEL signs MoU for co-operation in the civil aviation sector

  • Airports Authority of India (AAI) has entered into an MoU with Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics (BEL).
  • Objective of this MoU is to provide a platform for both the companies to collaborate and support each other to address the emerging global opportunities in the airport business, including those in the Asia Pacific region.
  • The MoU would provide for synergy between the two organisations in their respective domains, leading to mutually beneficial solutions in the field of aviation.

  • Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Minister of State for HRD Sanjay Dhotre have launched the most affordable COVID-19 test Kit.
  • It has been produced by IIT Delhi and manufactured by New Tech Medical Devices.
  • COROSURE is one of the companies which has received the non exclusive license from IIT Delhi for the probe free RT-PCR based COVID-19 test kit.

Poba Forest Reserve in Dhemaji to be upgraded to wildlife sanctuary

  • As per the announcement made by the state’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Poba Forest Reserve, a biodiversity hotspot located in Dhemaji of Upper Assam, will soon be upgraded to a wildlife sanctuary.

Government launches implementation guidelines for Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund

  • The guidelines for Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) launched by Union Minister of fisheries, Husbandry, and Dairying.
  • The fund will help to increase milk production to 330 million tonnes by 2024.
  • The Government of India is planning to increase milk processing up to 40%.
  • The AHIDF will facilitate the incentivization of investments to establish infrastructure for dairy and meat processing.
  • Under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, Rs 15,000 crores were approved by the Union Cabinet for AHIDF.
  • The GoI is to set up a credit guarantee fund of Rs 750 crores to achieve the targets in the dairy sector. This is to be managed by NABARD

  • In Maharashtra, cases of Covid-19 are raging in the Nashik district as well. However, to curb the further spread of the disease, the government has initiated a measure “HEALTHCARE SERVICE AT YOUR DOORSTEP”.
  • As many as 556 squads have been formed and they have been tasked to trace the COVID-19 positive patient.
  • The initiative taken by the state’s public health department and district administration to deploy 556 squads in predominantly tribal villages of Nashik is yielding positive results in containing the spread of Covid-19.

  • The Railways Minister Piyush Goyal has announced, India’s first cable-stayed Railways bridge “Anji Khad Bridge” to connects Katra and Reasi in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
  • This bridge being developed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL).
  • This bridge is as a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
  • The USBRL project also involves the Chenab river bridge.
  •  The Chenab Bridge once completed, will become the world’s highest rail bridge.
