  • The 9th edition of the Sustainable Mountain Development Summit (SMDS) organized in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
  • The four-day-long summit was organized by Indian Mountain Initiative (IMI) and hosted by Sustainable Development Forum Uttaranchal (SDFU), Dehradun.
  • The theme for 2020 SMDS was ‘Emerging Pathways for Building a Resilient Post COVID-19 Mountain Economy, Adaptation, Innovation and Acceleration’.

  • India’s longest single-lane motorable suspension bridge has been initiated in Tehri-Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The Dobra-Chanti Jhula (suspension) bridge, was introduced by the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to mark the 20th foundation day of the state on 9th November 2020.

DMC started the “Plastic Lao Mask Le Jao” initiative

  • In UttarakhandDehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) has started a drive named Plastic Lao MASK LE JAO to combat the menace of plastic waste and contain the spread of COVID-19.
  • It has distributed Five thousand face masks in replacement for plastic waste.

NSO’s Report on Literacy Rate

  • The National Statistical Office (NSO) released a report titled ‘Household Social Consumption: Education’. As per the report Kerala topped the list while Andhra Pradesh emerged as the least literate state, standing below Bihar.
  • Delhi stands at second position with 89% literacy rate. Uttarakhand is at number three with a literacy rate of 87.6% while Assam freezes at number four with 85.9% literacy rate.

Uttarakhand launched First UDAN-RCS service

  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, MoS, I/C, Civil Aviation flagged off the first helicopter service by Pawan Hans in Uttarakhand under the UDAN-RCS scheme on 29 July.
  • The new heli service will enable connectivity between Dehradun, New Tehri, Srinagar and Gauchar. It will enhance the aerial connectivity between hilly regions in Uttarakhand. It will reduce the average travel time to 20-25 minutes. The move will assist the Chaar Dhaam Yatra pilgrims.

Uttarakhand is ready to start ‘Waste to Energy’ initiative
