  • Every year the UNICEF Day is commemorated on December 11.
  • The United Nations General Assembly formed UNICEF on December 11, 1946, as the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund to enhance the health, nutrition, education, and general welfare of children devastated due to World War II.

PwC, UNICEF and YuWaah partner to redefine education

  • Consulting firm PwC India has collaborated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and YuWaah (Generation Unlimited in India) to upskill 300 million young Indians over the next 10 years.
  • This collaboration is part of PwC’s global multi-sector partnership with UNICEF and Generation Unlimited to upskill and provide about 1.8 billion youngsters with socio-economic opportunities from school to work by 2030.

  • To make young people career ready the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) have signed a SoI (Statement of Intent) to launch YuWaah-Generation Unlimited (GenU), which is a global multi-stakeholder platform in India.

UNICEF: India’s child mortality rate declines

  • According to the mortality estimates, the under-five mortality rate (deaths per 1000 live births) in India declined from 126 in 1990 to 34 in 2019.The report was jointly released by the UNICEF, WHO, Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the World Bank Group.

  • Airtel Africa in partnership with top educational websites will provide access to digital content in remote areas without any cost.
  • Countries that will be benefited are: Niger, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Nigeria, Gabon, Kenya, Congo, Democratic republic of Congo, Chad, Uganda, Madagascar, and Malawi .

India to be 77th on Sustainability Index

According to the report commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO), UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Lancet medical journal and backed by United Nations, India is at 77th position in the Sustainability Index 2020 and 131st on the Flourishing Index 2020.
