World Economic Forum 2021 to be held in Singapore

  • The World Economic Forum (WEF) has finalized to host its 2021 yearly meeting in Singapore, which earlier was planned to take place in Lucerne-Burgenstock, Switzerland from 13-16 May 2021.
  • The decision to shift the yearly forum from Switzerland has been taken in view of the Covid-19 situation in Europe.

Bata appoints Sandeep Kataria as global CEO

  • Footwear major Bata Shoe Organization has selected Sandeep Kataria as the new global Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
  • He is the first Indian to be elected to the global role of Bata (Headquarter-Lausanne, Switzerland). He takes over from Alexis Nasard, who has stepped down after almost five years in the role.

India jumps 4 places to rank 48 on Global Innovation Index 2020

  • As per the Global Innovation Index 2020 released on September 2, 2020, India has jumped four places to rank at the 48th position.
  • Switzerland has bagged the first spot, followed by Sweden, the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

India slides down at 77th place in estimating money in Swiss banks

  • India has rolled down three spots to 77th rank in terms of money deposited by its citizens and enterprises with Swiss banks at the end of 2019, while the UK has maintained its top position, as per the recent data from Switzerland’s central bank. India was placed 74th in the previous year.

World’s smallest gold coin minted by Switzerland’s Swissmint

World’s smallest gold coin has been minted by Switzerland state-owned Swissmint. The coin is of 2.96 millimeter (0.12 inches) and features face of scientist Albert Einstein sticking out his tongue. It weighs 0.063 grams and has a nominal value of 1/4 Swiss francs (USD United States Dollar- 0.26).

Swissmint said the coin, of which just 999 have been made, will be sold for 199 francs with a special magnifying glass so owners can see the famous physicist Einstein on its face.
