Mt Everest announced 86 cm taller by Nepal and China

  • The world’s highest mountain peak ‘Mount Everest’ has become taller by 86 cm, as per a survey carried out jointly by Nepal and China.
  • The Government of Nepal and China jointly conducted an exercise to measure the world’s highest peak.

US Air Quality Index: Lahore is the world’s most polluted city

  • Lahore, the cultural capital of Pakistan, has been listed as the world’s most polluted city, according to air pollution data published by the US Air Quality Index (AQI).
  • Lahore listed a particulate matter (PM) rating of 423. New Delhi stood second with a PM of 229, while Nepal’s capital Kathmandu ranked third with a PM of 178.

Nepal cable operators ban private Indian news channels

  • India’s national news network Doordarshan has been exempted from this ban

MoU inked in June 2020 under Nepal-Bharat Maitri

  • Under the Nepal-Bharat Maitri project, on 16th June 2020, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between India and Nepal under which India will build a sanitation facility at the famous Pashupatinath Temple Complex in Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu.

Sanskrit Vidhyalaya made by India in Nepal Inaugurated

  • Sanskrit Vidhyalaya constructed in Eastern Nepal’s Province No 1’s IIam district by India was introduced on 6th July 2020 via video conferencing.
  • The name of the Vidhyalaya is ‘Shree Saptmai Gurukul Sanskrit Vidhyalaya’.

Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan vow $3.5 mn to SAARC COVID-19 Fund

  • Bangladesh and Nepal pledged to donate $1.5 million and $1 million respectively to the SAARC Corona Emergency Fund proposed by PM Narendra Modi with an opening offer of $10 million from India to tackle COVID-19 pandemic in the region.
  • India first declared to contribute $10 million to the fund and subsequently Nepal and Afghanistan promised $1 million each and the Maldives and Bhutan committed $200,000 and 100,000 respectively.

70th National Democracy Day celebrated by Nepal

The 70th National Democracy Day was celebrated on 19th February by the government of Nepal. The day is being celebrated every year on Falgun 7 to commemorate the attainment of democracy from the 104-year long autocratic Rana Regime.
