Ladakh gets largest solar project at Leh Indian Air Force station
  • The Union Territory of Ladakh has made the largest solar power project established under the Centre’s ‘Make In India’ initiative at Leh IAF station to give sustainable energy alternative to fossil fuel and traditional methods of energy generation.
  • The project namely ‘Provision of Solar Photo Voltaic Powerplant 1.5 MW’ has been completed within 12 months well before the completion deadline of March 31, 2021.

IAF formally inducts Rafale fighter jets

  • The Rafale aircraft were formally inducted into the IAF with a Sarva Dharma Puja followed by an air display of the fighter jets and a water cannon salute.

5 Rafale multi-role combat jets arrived in India

  • A French-manufactured fleet of five Rafale multi-role combat jets arrived in India at the Ambala Air Force base. It comprises three single-seater and two twin-seater aircraft.
  • GOI signed a Rs 59,000-crore deal with French aerospace major Dassault Aviation on September 23, 2016 to procure 36 Rafale jets. The delivery of all 36 aircraft will be completed on schedule by the end of 2021.

MoD confirms 33 new fighter jets for IAF in deals worth ₹38,900 crore

  • Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on 2nd July confirmed deals worth ₹38,900 crore. This includes the procurement of 21 MiG-29 fighter jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF), advance of 59 of them and acquirement of 12 Su-30 MKI planes.

IAF adds Tejas Mk-1 FOC aircraft in Squadron “Flying Bullets”

  • Tejas Mk-1 FOC aircraft has been recruited by the Indian Air Force (IAF) into the newly resurrected No 18 Squadron the “Flying Bullets” at Air Force Station Sulur. Tejas Mk-1 FOC is a single-engine, lightweight, highly agile and all-weather multi-role fighter aircraft.

Indian Air force launches “Operation Sanjeevani”

    • The Indian air force has launched “Operation Sanjeevani” to supply 6.2 tonnes of medical equipment and medicines to the Maldives via cargo aircraft “C-130J Super Hercules“.
    • These supplies are required by the Maldives to treat patients affected by COVID-19.
