Christchurch’s Hagley Oval to host 2021 Women’s World Cup final

Christchurch’s Hagley Oval will host the summit clash of next year’s Women’s Cricket ODI World Cup, as announced on Thursday. The 50-over tournament which featuring 31 matches will run from February 6 to March 7 will be played across six cities.

Auckland will host a bumper opening weekend at Eden Park, before the focus shifts to matches in Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga, Dunedin and Christchurch. Hamilton and Tauranga will host the semifinals.

11th Indoor Cricket World Cup to be hosted by Australia in October

Australia is set to host the 11th edition of the Indoor Cricket World Cup from October 10 to 17. The tournament will be held at the state-of-the-art indoor cricket venues in Melbourne – Casey Stadium and CitiPower Centre, the World Indoor Cricket Federation announced.

Last held in Dubai in 2017, Australia is the reigning men’s and women’s champions and the host will be seeking to continue the run of never losing a World Cup in either division in the 25-year history of the tournament. Cricketers from up to 10 countries will compete in the tournament in four divisions: under-21 men and women and open men and women.

Former Indian cricketer Man Mohan Sood passes away at 80

Former Test batsman and National selector Man Mohan Sood passed away at the age of 80. Sood played one Test and 39 first-class matches with one century in his cricket career.

Sood made his first class debut against Services in 1957 and played his final Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir in 1964. His lone Test appearance came against Richie Benaud-led Australia at Madras in 1960 when India lost by an innings and 55 runs.

Tendulkar and Walsh to coach Aussie bushfire relief match

Sachin Tendulkar and Courtney Walsh will coach star-studded teams in a charity match to raise funds for victims of Australia’s bushfires. The former Test captains are the latest players to come out of retirement for the appeal, joining Aussie greats Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Michael Clarke and Shane Watson. India’s Tendulkar and Windies fast bowler Walsh will coach teams skippered by Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting respectively. Steve Waugh and Australian coach Justin Langer will also have non-playing roles.

The bushfire relief match will take place ahead of the Big Bash final with the venue to be confirmed on January 31 after the Qualifier is played with the winning team hosting the final. Before that double-header, the Australia and India women’s teams will play their tri-series match in Melbourne and it could be the city hosts the trio of matches if the Melbourne Stars secure the BBL final at the MCG.

India lifts Diplomat Cup Cricket Championship 2020 beating Pakistan

The team of the Indian Consulate in Dubai on Saturday defeated the team of the Pakistan Consulate to lift the Diplomat Cup Cricket Championship of 2020. Consul General Vipul alongwith the other family members of the Indian Consulate was present on the ground to cheer the team.

The Championship was organized by Skyline University College in Sharjah. Consulates of eight countries participated in the tournament. The aim of the Diplomat Cup Cricket Championship is to bring together officials and employees of different Consulates based in UAE.

With the Indian Consulate in Dubai as the permanent patron, the championship entered its fourth edition this year. This is the third time in succession that India has won the Diplomat Cup Championship. The first tournament was won by Bangladesh in January 2017. The participating Consulates were – India, Pakistan, Afghanistan , Bangladesh , Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia and the US.
