• The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the Super Speciality Block (SSB) at Motilal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj which is built with an investment of Rs 150 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
• The Super Speciality Block (SSB) is a 220-bedded facility, dedicated as a COVID Hospital (DCH) to the nation.

FELUDA – First Gene based high accuracy COVID-19 test approved in India

• The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has recently approved the gene-based COVID-19 test called Feluda. Using the CRISPR gene-editing technology, Feluda identifies and targets the genetic material of Sars-CoV2, the causative virus of Covid-19.

ICMR clinical trial finds convalescent plasma therapy against COVID-19 to be ineffective

• The trials called PLACID Trials were conducted between 22nd April and 14th July at 39 centres across the country. 
• There was not any significant difference in mortality rates between those who received convalescent plasma therapy and those in the control group.
