Dr Harsh Vardhan attends 8th BRICS STI Ministerial Meet

  • The 8th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Meeting was conducted through a virtual platform for Science and Technology cooperation among the member countries, which are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
  • The meeting was held under the leadership of the Russian Federation.

  • External Affairs Minister of the Republic of India, Shri S. Jaishankar, chaired the customary meeting of IBSA Foreign Ministers through video conferencing. During the meet, India, Brazil and South Africa emphasized the need for the international community to redouble efforts to achieve tangible progress for accelerated and comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council.

ISRO prepares to launch brazil’s amazonia-1 satellite aboard PSLV in august this year

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to lift off Brazil’s Amazonia-1 satellite next month onboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
  • The Amazonia-1 satellite which PSLV will launch will help in monitoring and observing the deforestation of the Amazon region.
  • The Brazilian satellite has been locally designed and tested in Brazil. It will be the first satellite for Earth observation.
  • The Amazonia-1 launch is among the 36 space and satellite missions ISRO has planned over the next two years

  • This year, the 22nd annual International Day of Action for Rivers is observed.
  • The day targets to stress the importance of rivers and how it affects the lives of the people.
  • The theme of 2020 International Day of Action for Rivers is Women, Water, and Climate Change.
  • The International Day of Action Against Dams and For Rivers, Water and Life was started at the first International Meeting of People Affected by Dams at Curitiba Brazil in March 1997.

Brazilian President invited as the Chief Guest on India’s 71st Republic Day

On the occasion of 71st Republic Day Parade at Raj Path, New Delhi on 26 January, President of Brazil Jair Messias Bolsonaro has been invited as the chief guest. Bolsonaro will arrive in New Delhi on a four-day state visit to India.

President Ram Nath Kovind will meet President Bolsonaro on January 25th, President Kovind who will host a Banquet in his honour. Vice President and the External Affairs Minister will call on President Bolsonaro.

Delegation comprising of seven Ministers, Chairman of Brazil-India Friendship Group in the Brazilian Parliament, senior officials and a large business delegation will also be accompanying President Bolsonaro.
