• ” The smart triplets” has been officially chosen as the mascot of the 19th Asian Games that are going to be held in 2022.

World Athletics championship delayed to 2022

• The 2021 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon will be postponed to 2022 to accommodate the re-arranged Tokyo Olympics, World Athletics stated.
• The World Athletics Championships that were programmed to take place in Eugene on August 6-15, 2021, can no longer be held on those dates due to the shifting of 2020 Tokyo Games to 2021

China to host the 2021 Asian Youth Games

• The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on 1^st April said that the coastal city of Shantou in China will continue as hosts of the third Asian Youth Games
• The Asian Youth Games will be organized from November 20 to 28, 2021.

Tokyo Olympics postponed to July 23- August 8 in 2021

• The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has been delayed by one year and will be organized from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
• The decision has been made by the IOC amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

IAAF suspends Navin Chikara for 4 years for a doping violation

• International Association of Athletics Federations(IAAF), has suspended Indian shot putter Navin Chikara (23) for 4 years for finding positive in dope test in 2018.
• This 4-year suspension will be considered active from July 27, 2018.

Former world champion boxer Roger Mayweather passes away

• Former world boxing champion Roger Mayweather passed away. He won titles in the category of 130 and 140 pounds in his 18-year career that started in 1981.
• He won his first 17 career fights and clinched the world title in World Boxing Association junior lightweight and earned the World Boxing Council junior welterweight title in 1987.

Two Indians nominated in International Panel of ICC Development Umpires

• Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan have been nominated in the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires.
• The announcement was made after the launch of 100% Cricket which is a 12-month campaign which has been released to build on the momentum of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.
• Tamil Nadu’s Janani Narayanan is a software engineer while, Vrinda Rathi of Mumbai is a former varsity player who has been umpiring in Indian domestic cricket from 2018.

SC clears permanent commission for women in Indian Navy

March 19, 2020

• The Supreme court of India cleared permanent commission for women officers in the Indian Navy. A bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud said, there cannot be any excuses for not providing gender equality in the armed forces.
• The court was contrary to the Centre’s policy of 1991 and 1998 which lifted the statutory bar on the induction of women officers in the Navy.
• It also allows pension benefits to women officers who have retired and were not granted permanent commission.

Saurashtra wins their 1st-ever Ranji Trophy title

• Saurashtra lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy title after earning a 44-run lead in the first innings against Bengal which eventually ended in a draw in the final in Rajkot, Gujarat. Jaydev Unadkat was the captain of Saurashtra Team.
