  • The World Athletics Championships that were programmed to take place in Eugene on August 6-15, 2021, can no longer be held on those dates due to the shifting of 2020 Tokyo Games to 2021

China to host the 2021 Asian Youth Games

  • The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on 1st April said that the coastal city of Shantou in China will continue as hosts of the third Asian Youth Games
  • The Asian Youth Games will be organized from November 20 to 28, 2021.

  • This 4-year suspension will be considered active from July 27, 2018.

Former world champion boxer Roger Mayweather passes away

  • Former world boxing champion Roger Mayweather passed away. He won titles in the category of 130 and 140 pounds in his 18-year career that started in 1981.
  • He won his first 17 career fights and clinched the world title in World Boxing Association junior lightweight and earned the World Boxing Council junior welterweight title in 1987.

  • Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan have been nominated in the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires.
  • The announcement was made after the launch of 100% Cricket which is a 12-month campaign which has been released to build on the momentum of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.
  • Tamil Nadu’s Janani Narayanan is a software engineer while, Vrinda Rathi of Mumbai is a former varsity player who has been umpiring in Indian domestic cricket from 2018.

SC clears permanent commission for women in Indian Navy

  • The Supreme court of India cleared permanent commission for women officers in the Indian Navy. A bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud said, there cannot be any excuses for not providing gender equality in the armed forces.
  • The court was contrary to the Centre’s policy of 1991 and 1998 which lifted the statutory bar on the induction of women officers in the Navy.
  • It also allows pension benefits to women officers who have retired and were not granted permanent commission.

Saurashtra wins their 1st-ever Ranji Trophy title

  • Saurashtra lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy title after earning a 44-run lead in the first innings against Bengal which eventually ended in a draw in the final in Rajkot, Gujarat. Jaydev Unadkat was the captain of Saurashtra Team.
