APEDA inks MoU with SFAC for development of agriculture sector

  • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority(APEDA) and Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium(SFAC) has inked an MoU for the upliftment of agriculture and allied sectors as well as its exports for bringing better value to the stakeholders.

Key takeaways of the MoU signed by APEDA and SFAC:

  • As per MoU, APEDA and SFAC will cooperatively work to link up the FPOs with the exporters.
  • They will also work towards capacity upliftment, awareness programs, outreach programs and workshops of various stakeholders.
  • APEDA will facilitate certification of organic produce/areas by the Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) assisted or identified by SFAC.

UN releases World Happiness Report 2020

  • United Nations (UN) delivered the 8th World Happiness Report 2020 to measure the happiness of people of 156 countries where India(3.573) ranks in 144th position &  Finland(7.809) tops the 3rd time.
  • The survey places the countries using Gallup World Poll, GDP levels, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom &  corruption income.

RBI to infuse Rs 30,000 crore to uplift liquidity

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will infuse liquidity of Rs 30,000 crore by purchasing of Government securities under Open Market Operations (OMOs) to maintain financial stability in the Indian economy.
  • RBI has took this decision to improve liquidity in order to ensure that all markets segments function normally with adequate liquidity and turnover, as certain financial market segments are facing stress due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Indian Railways to electrify all broad gauge routes by December 2023

  • Indian Railways has decided to electrify a total of 28,810 km of broad gauge route by December 2023.
  • As part of its solar mission, it plans to source approximately 1000 megawatt (MW) of solar power & to source around 200 MW of wind power.

  • Former world boxing champion Roger Mayweather passed away. He won titles in the category of 130 and 140 pounds in his 18-year career that started in 1981.
  • He won his first 17 career fights and clinched the world title in World Boxing Association junior lightweight and earned the World Boxing Council junior welterweight title in 1987.

Defence Ministry inks contract with Israeli firm for LMG

  • The Ministry of Defence has inked the capital acquisition contract of worth Rs 880 crore with Israel Weapons Industries for the procurement of Light Machine Gun (LMGs).
  • The Light Machine Guns were the long-standing requirement of Indian Armed Forces.
  • Negev 7.62 X 51 mm LMG which is a combat weapon, is being used globally and expected to enhance the lethality as well as the range of a soldier vis-a-vis the presently used weapon.

  • Tamil Nadu’s Janani Narayanan is a software engineer while, Vrinda Rathi of Mumbai is a former varsity player who has been umpiring in Indian domestic cricket from 2018.

  • DBS Bank India has paired-up with Bharti AXA to start a complimentary insurance plan which will cover all medical conditions, including Covid-19.
  • The insurance plan will also include up to 10 days of hospitalisation along with a cover of Rs 5,000 per day for a 30-day period.

  • Kamal Nath has stepped down as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He has resigned ahead of the floor test which was scheduled to be held on 20th March 2020 in the state assembly.
  • He will submit his resignation to Lal Ji Tandon, governor of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Kamal Nath sworn-in as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh after winning the state Assembly polls held in 2018.
