  • Every year July 29 is celebrated as Global Tiger Day with an aim to create awareness for tiger conservation. 
  • It promotes a system to protect natural habitats of tigers and raise public awareness. This year, the Global Tiger Day is celebrated with the slogan, “Their Survival is in our hand”.

World Hepatitis Day
  • Every Year 28th July is observed as World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes a range of health problems, including liver cancer.
  • This year’s theme is “Hepatitis-free future.
  • There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus – A, B, C, D and E.  Together, hepatitis B and C are the most common cause of deaths, with 1.3 million lives lost each year.

July 27th observed as CRPF Raising Day

CRPF Raising Day
  • The CRPF was raised on July 27, 1939 as the Crown representative Police under the British. It was then changed as a Central Reserve Police force in 1949 under Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
  • This year 2020, the 82nd CRPF Raising Day is to be celebrated all over India.

  • ‘National Broadcasting Day’ is observed on 23rd July every year with an aim to celebrate the radio which is an easy medium to entertain people along with the news.
  • The first-ever radio broadcasting went on air in 1927.

20th July observed as International Chess Day

  • International Chess Day is celebrated annually on July 20, since 1966.
  • It was on this day that the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded, in 1924.
  • FIDE’s motto for 2020 celebrations is, “Teach someone how to play chess.”
  • The International Chess Federation and the United Nations will be organizing an online event this year called ‘Chess for Recovering Better’ due to the pandemic.

  • Nelson Mandela International Day (also Mandela Day) is held every year on July 18 globally to honour the legacy of the late President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
  • The day 18 July marks the birth anniversary of the great South African leader, who was born in 1918.
  • United Nations officially declared July 18 as UN Mandela Day in November 2009.
  • The first UN Mandela Day was held on 18 July 2010.
  • He won the Nobel Peace Prize for his leadership for his anti-apartheid activism in 1993.
  • He was awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna in 1990 for his role in the anti-apartheid movement. Apart from Pakistan national Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, he is the only non-Indian to have received the award.
