5 Rafale multi-role combat jets arrived in India

Rafale
  • A French-manufactured fleet of five Rafale multi-role combat jets arrived in India at the Ambala Air Force base. It comprises three single-seater and two twin-seater aircraft.
  • GOI signed a Rs 59,000-crore deal with French aerospace major Dassault Aviation on September 23, 2016 to procure 36 Rafale jets. The delivery of all 36 aircraft will be completed on schedule by the end of 2021.

  • On July 22, 2020, the Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawal, Flag Officer Commanding-in-chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC), virtually operated the 3 MegaWatt (MW) largest Solar Power Plant at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala
  • The project is a part of the Indian Government’s initiative of National Solar Mission, to attain 100 GigaWatt (GW) of solar power by 2022. 

India and US conduct joint military exercises in the Indian Ocean

  • The US and Indian navies conducted joint military operations in the Indian Ocean as both countries try to navigate tense relations with Beijing.
  • The Passage Exercise near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands involved the United States’ Carrier Strike Group (CSG) led by aircraft carrier Nimitz and units of Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet and Andaman and Nicobar Command.

India successfully test-fires “Dhruvastra” anti-guided missiles

  • India successfully conducted the flight trial of Dhruvastra anti-guided missile at the Interim Test Range of Odisha. The trials of the helicopter launched Nag Missile (HELINA) were successful. The missile has now been renamed as “Dhruvastra”.
  • Helina is a third-generation anti-tank guided missile mounted on Advanced Light Helicopter. The missile system can engage targets indirect hit mode and attack mode.

US & India conduct joint naval exercise

  • A US carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz conducted a “cooperative” exercise with Indian warships in the Indian Ocean on Monday.
  • The cooperative exercises took place near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and transited through the Indian Ocean region.

  • The book, named ‘Mahaveer: The Soldier who never died’ is written by award-winning author K. Srikumar and his wife, Rupa Srikumar. The book is a patriotic story about the bravery and selfless passion of Jaswant Singh Rawat who is one of the legendary Garhwali soldiers who fought in the Indo-Chinese battle of Nuranang in 1962.

Indian Navy finishes “Operation Samudra Setu”

  • The Operation Samudra Setu was started on 5th May 2020 by the Indian Navy. The Operation Samudra Setu lasted over 55 days in which 3,992 Indian Citizens were brought back to their homeland by the sea route by the Indian Navy.
