Actress Waheeda Rehman will be decorated with the Madhya Pradesh government’s National Kishore Kumar Samman. Rehman, one of Hindi film industry’s most respectful leading ladies with a chain of box office hits and several awards.
Yusuf Jameel, Kashmiri reporter has won the second edition of an award set up in the memory of journalist Gauri Lankesh. Jameel was awarded for showing an exemplary commitment to professional integrity and the ideals of democracy.
The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards was announced on January 26, 2020. The Awards ceremony was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and the show was hosted by Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys. Eminent journalist and chairman of The Hindu Group of Publications N Ram has been selected for the Kerala Media Academy’s national media award for his outstanding contribution to journalism. The award carries a purse of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a memento.
The national award was instituted as part of 40th anniversary celebrations of the academy for fearless and meritorious contribution to journalism. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would present the award during a media conclave in March this year.
Ram was selected for the award by a jury comprising former state Education Minister M A Baby, senior journalist Thomas Jacob, general education department secretary A Shajahan, media analyst Sebastian Paul, Asianet editor M G Radhakrishnan and Planning Board member Mridul Eapen. The jury considered contributions of Ram to journalism in the last 40 years.
Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards are given in three categories: “Padma Vibhushan” exceptional and distinguished service; “Padma Bhushan” distinguished service of outstanding quality; and “Padma Shri” distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year and conferred by the President of India.
This year the President has approved conferment of 141 Padma Awards including 4 duo cases (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one). The list comprises of 7 Padma Vibhushan, 16 Padma Bhushan and 118 Padma Shri Awards. 33 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 18 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 12 Posthumous awardees.

Government of India has instituted an annual award known as ‘Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar’ in order to recognise the excellent work done by individuals and institutions in India in the field of disaster management. The award is announced every year on 23rd January, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
For the year 2020, Disaster Mitigation & Management Centre, Uttarakhand (in the institution category) and Kumar Munnan Singh (Individual category) have been selected for the award for their commendable work in Disaster Management.
The winner shall receive a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs, in case of individual and receive a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 51 lakhs, in case of an institution. The cash prize shall be utilized by the winning institution for Disaster Management related activities only.
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr) N Kumar has been conferred with National Award for Agriculture sector namely “Harit Ratna Award 2019”. The award was presented by All India Agricultural Students Association (AIASA) during 5th National Youth Convention held at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyala, Raipur on January 20.
The award was conferred to him for dissemination of Rs.30 crore entrepreneurship project for attracting youth in agri business activity and his contribution to increase the impact of Fertigation, precision farming, ultra high density planting system for increasing farmers income and involved in increasing awareness of students and their role for welfare of the society and motivated the students to agriculture sector in Tamil Nadu.
President Ram Nath Kovind distributed the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2020 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi to recognize the exceptional achievements of children in various fields like innovation, scholastic achievements, social service, arts and culture, sports and bravery. The prestigious award was given to 49 children between the age group of 5-18 years at a ceremony.

Gujarat replaced West Bengal to become the top governed state in the 2019 Skoch rankings. Poll-bound Delhi was at the 19th place, lower than 15th spot it occupied in the previous two years.
Delhi is ranked fifth on the parameter of health, one of its main claims of governance. There are 22 parameters that go into the overall ranking, while health and cleanliness dominated the good governance initiatives across the country in 2019.
Environmentalist and social activist Arushi Nishank was honoured with the Champions of Change Award 2019 in the second edition of the Champions of Change Award held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on January 20. She received the award for her initiative towards cleaning and saving river Ganga, the Sparsh Ganga initiative.
The award is given under the transformation of Aspirational District Program which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year in January. The program identifies the progress of 115 ‘aspirational’ districts whose development is being monitored by NITI Aayog.
Other recipients of the award were actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, actor Suresh Oberoi for Culture and Lok Sabha MP Geeta Koda for Aspirational. Telugu film producer Allu Arvind, Minister of State Finance & Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur and Deepa Venkat of Swarna Bharat Trust (Andhra Pradesh), won the award for Social Welfare.
