India and World Bank ink $400 million projects to protect India’s poor

  • The Government of India and the World Bank have inked a $400 million project to guard vulnerable groups in urban and peri-urban areas across the country affected by COVID-19.
  • This is the second such assistance in the series of two ‘Accelerating India’s COVID-19 Social Protection Response Programme’. Under the first operation, $750 million was recommended by World Bank in May 2020.

GoI signs $1-bn loan pact with NDB to support Indian Economy

  • The Government of India and the New Development Bank (NDB) have inked a loan agreement worth $1,000 million for ‘strengthening India’s economic recovery from COVID-19’. The loan has a tenor of 30 years, including a 5-year grace period.

Norway inks MoU with Clean Ganga Mission in India

  • The Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) has inked an MoU with cGanga, a think-tank of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) for the development of sludge management framework in India.
  • Through this initiative, Norway intends to strengthen the relationship with India especially in the prevention of climate change and conservation of the environment.

India and Austria sign MoU on Technology Cooperation

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Austria on Technology Cooperation in the Road Infrastructure Sector.

PwC, UNICEF and YuWaah partner to redefine education

UNICEF
  • Consulting firm PwC India has collaborated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and YuWaah (Generation Unlimited in India) to upskill 300 million young Indians over the next 10 years.
  • This collaboration is part of PwC’s global multi-sector partnership with UNICEF and Generation Unlimited to upskill and provide about 1.8 billion youngsters with socio-economic opportunities from school to work by 2030.

India & USA inks MoU on Intellectual Property Cooperation

  • The Government of India and the United States of America (USA) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of Intellectual Property Cooperation.
  • As a part of this MoU, the two sides will strengthen the Biennial Work Plan to implement the MoU which will include detailed planning for carrying out the co-operation activities including the scope of action. The Union Cabinet had confirmed the signing of the MoU for the same on 19 February 2020.

ADB ink $132.8 million loan agreement for Meghalaya’s Power supply

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India have inked a USD 132.8 million loan agreement for Meghalaya Power Distribution Sector Improvement Project.
  • The project plans to strengthen and modernize the distribution network and advance the quality of power supplied to households, industries, and businesses in the northeastern state of Meghalaya.
