Hichem Mechichi designated as new Prime minister Tunisia

  • Tunisian president Kais Saied designated Hichem Mechichi as the country’s new prime minister. 
  • Mechihi succeeds Elyes Fakhfakh, who resigned last week. 
  • Mechichi is an independent in the parliament and served as interior minister under Fakhfakh. He has also served as legal advisor to the president.

CCI will boost cotton exports to Vietnam

  • Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is holding surplus stocks of cotton with an aim to boost exports of cotton to Bangladesh and Vietnam.
  • A memorandum of understanding is being worked out to export 1.5-2 million bales (of 170 kilogrammes each) of cotton to Bangladesh while the state-run CCI will also set up its own warehouse in Vietnam to boost cotton exports.

BIS-Care mobile app launched by Consumer Affairs Minister

  • Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan launched a mobile app BIS-Care, consumers can use for checking the authenticity of ISI and hallmark quality certified products.
  • The minister also launched three portals of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on standardization, conformity assessment and training, which consumers and stakeholders can login through www.manakonline.in.

“Mausam Application” launched by GoI to Forecast Weather

  • Union Minister of Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan launched a mobile application named ‘Mausam’ that will not only provide city-wise weather forecasts and warnings but also provide information such as humidity, temperature, wind speed, direction for around 200 cities.
  • The application is jointly designed and developed by International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).

World’s first-ever Electrified Rail Tunnel capable of running Double Stack Container Trains to come up in Haryana

  • The Indian Railways is in the process of building the world’s first electrified tunnel which is capable of running double stacked container trains.
  • The tunnel when complete will be around 1 kilometre long and is situated near Rewari and Dadri in Haryana

‘Dare to Dream 2.0’ contest launched by DRDO

  • A contest named ‘Dare to Dream 2.0’launched with an aim to promote innovators in the fields of defence and emerging technologies in India by DRDO.
  • The main objective of the Contest is to promote the individuals and start-ups for innovation in defence and aerospace technologies in the country after the call of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Award money, up to Rs 10 lakh for start-up and Rs 5 lakh in individual category, will be given to the winners.

  • Every Year 28th July is observed as World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes a range of health problems, including liver cancer.
  • This year’s theme is “Hepatitis-free future.
  • There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus – A, B, C, D and E.  Together, hepatitis B and C are the most common cause of deaths, with 1.3 million lives lost each year.
