India to have 60 percent renewable energy by 2030 said Power minister RK Singh

  • India will have approximately 60 percent of its installed electricity generation potential from clean sources by 2030, Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh said on 22nd July.
  • The minister also oozed confidence that the renewable energy capacity would touch 510 GW by 2030, including 60 GW of hydropower.

Turkmenistan receives observer status in the World Trade Organization

  • Turkmenistan has been given observer status (25th country) by the World Trade Organization (WTO ) General Council. Turkmenistan has become the last former Soviet republic to make formal ties with the trade body.
  • The Central Asian country submitted a request for observer status in May and expressed willingness to trigger the talks on accession to the WTO within five years.

Nicaragua to be 87th country to sign International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement

  • Nicaragua has come up as the 87th country to link the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Framework Agreement, an initiative headed by India to spread sustainable energy.
  • The agreement on behalf of the Central American country Nicaragua was inked by the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Jaime Hermida Castillo at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York on 22, July 2020.

Mukesh Ambani becomes the world’s fifth richest person

  • Billionaire Mukesh Ambani has come up as the fifth richest person in the world, according to the Billionaires List by business magazine Forbes.
  • The chairman of oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance Industries exceeded ace American investor Warren Buffett to obtain the fifth spot on the real-time ranking by Forbes, which counted Mr. Ambani’s wealth at $75 billion (Rs 5.61 lakh crore at $1 = Rs 74.76).

  • Alok Misra, right now Professor & Chairperson of Public Policy & Governance at MDI Gurgaon, will be working as CEO of Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) from 1st August 2020.
  • Dr. Misra took place of the present CEO, Harsh Shrivastava, who has decided to move on after over 2 years at MFIN.

India, Maldives inked a contract for development of Geydoshu Mas Plant in Maldives’ Maradhoo and Hulhudhoo

  • On July 22, 2020, India and Maldives signed an agreement to set up Geydoshu Mas Plant (Neighborhood Fish Processing Plants) at two islands in the Addu city of Maldives namely Maradhoo and Hulhudhoo. 
  • The contract inking ceremony was carried out in Addu City, which attended virtually Maldives’ Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudir, along with other members of Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign affairs.

  • On July 22, 2020, the Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawal, Flag Officer Commanding-in-chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC), virtually operated the 3 MegaWatt (MW) largest Solar Power Plant at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala
  • The project is a part of the Indian Government’s initiative of National Solar Mission, to attain 100 GigaWatt (GW) of solar power by 2022. 

A book named “The Endgame” authored by Hussain Zaidi

  • S Hussain Zaidi, a well-known crime writer has newly written a novel titled “The Endgame”. It was published by HarperCollins India. The book articulates about politics, betrayal, and unimaginable terror.
  • “Black Friday”, “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”, “Dongri to Dubai” and “Byculla to Bangkok” are other famous books written by him.

Mr. Sahil Seth selected as an honorary advisor for BRICS CCI

  • The Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Customs and a 2011 batch Indian Revenue Service Officer, Mr. Sahil Seth, has been selected as an honorary advisor for the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) for the duration 2020 to 2030.

RBI starts Report of Committee For Analysis of QR Code led by Prof. Deepak B Phatak

  • On July 24, 2020, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) publicized the “Report of the Committee for Analysis of QR (Quick Response) Code” under the leadership of Prof. Deepak B. Phatak on its website for comments/suggestions of various industry players.
  • The committee has advised phasing out of proprietary, closed-loop QR codes as it requires customers to manage separate apps.
  • The committee was constituted by RBI on 23rd december 2019.

‘RestartIndia’ advisory portal for MSME sector

  • The Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs), Shri Nitin Gadkari launched a mentoring platform ‘www.restartindia.in’ for MSME which is jointly developed by Muthoot Fincorp and INKtalks.
  • The main objective of the Portal is to help the sector in restarting businesses across the country, to address the questions and provide information on various schemes and initiatives of the government.

E-Sachivalaya portal launched by Haryana Govt.

  • Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar launched e-Sachivalaya portal, a digital platform, facilitating people to take online appointments for virtual meetings with the CM , Deputy CM , Ministers and other Heads of Departments.
