COVID-19 Testing facility launched by DRDO in Leh

July 23, 2020

A COVID-19 testing facility is established by DRDO in Leh with an aim to enhance the rate of testing of Coronavirus cases in UT of Ladakh.
The centre is inaugurated by the UT’s Lt Governor Shri RK Mathur and it is capable of screening 50 samples per day.
The facility follows the safety standards and guidelines given by ICMR.

China launched its first Mars Probe

China successfully launched its first Mars Probe named ‘Tianwen 1’from the Wenchchang Spacecraft launch site. The Spacecraft was carried by the biggest and powerful rocket of China, Long March 5.
Its Objective is a comprehensive observation and investigation of the soil, atmosphere, environment and water on Mars.

SpaceX launches South Korea’s 1st military satellite

July 23, 2020

SpaceX successfully launched South Korea’s first military satellite and aced a rocket landing, too, to mark its 12th launch of the year.
The satellite named “ANASIS-II” was deployed into a geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) by a Falcon 9 rocket. It was launched from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in the US of Florida.

India’s GDP to contract by 6.1% in FY21: Nomura

As per the report of Nomura Holdings, India’s Gross domestic Product(GDP) is likely to contract by 6.1%(-6.1%) in FY21 as economic activity continues to be weak due to COVID-19 pandemic.

India and US conduct joint military exercises in the Indian Ocean

The US and Indian navies conducted joint military operations in the Indian Ocean as both countries try to navigate tense relations with Beijing.
The Passage Exercise near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands involved the United States’ Carrier Strike Group (CSG) led by aircraft carrier Nimitz and units of Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet and Andaman and Nicobar Command.
