Kolkata Police starts 3rd edition of ‘Sukanya’ project

Kolkata Police has started the 3rd edition of ‘Sukanya‘ project. The project is an initiative of the Kolkata Police’s Community Policing Wing with an aim to provide self-defence training to girl students of city-based schools, colleges and universities.

The third batch of ‘Sukanya’ started at 100 city-based schools and colleges situated in Kolkata Police jurisdiction. The initiative is funded by Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department of the state government.

West Bengal Govt to provide insurance coverage to Ganga Sagar pilgrims

The West Bengal Government will provide insurance coverage of five lakh rupees each to the Ganga Sagar pilgrims. The administration has done necessary arrangements for drinking water supply and accommodation facilities for the devotees.

Thousands of pilgrims assemble at Sagar Island to take a holy dip at the confluence of the Hooghly River and the Bay of Bengal on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and offer Pooja at the Kapil Muni temple. 

4th ‘Buxa Bird Festival’ begins in West Bengal

The 4th edition of ‘Buxa Bird Festival’ has started in Buxa National Park in West Bengal’s, district Alipurduar. More than 50 birdwatchers from pan India and abroad have registered in the festival. Over 300 rare species including the Sultan Tit, Greater Spotted Eagle and Great Hornbill visit the national park during this festival.

West Bengal: Dharmendra Pradhan launches mission PURVODAYA

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Steel launched mission PURVODAYA for the development of eastern India through integrated steel hub in Kolkata, West Bengal. Through this programme, the government aims to transform logistics and utilities infrastructure which would change the socio-economic landscape in the eastern India.

The mission will drive India’s march towards five trillion dollar economy set by the government. The steps, under mission, also include growth of steel industry along with employment opportunities across the entire value chain.

PM Modi renames Kolkata Port Trust after BJP icon Syama Prasad Mukherjee

PM Narendra Modi announced to rename Kolkata Port Trust as Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port on the occasion of 150th years celebration of Kolkata Port Trust. He dedicated a Commemorative Stamp to mark 150 years of Kolkata port trust to India.

PM Modi launched several Port led development projects worth Rs 600 cr rupees to mark the day. The projects include upgraded Ship repair facility at Netaji Subhash Dry Dock, upgraded railway infrastructure of Kolkata dock system of the Kolkata Port for smooth cargo movement and river front development scheme.

PM Modi honored two oldest pensioners of the Port Smt. Nagina Bhagat of 105 years and 100-year old Naresh Chandra Chakraborty on the occasion besides launching the Port Anthem at the event. He also advocated for expansion of water based tourism in the country besides creating new infrastructures in Port connected cities.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal launched the first phase of “East-West Metro line” which is Kolkata’s second metro line. The phase 1 of the East-West Metro corridor is a 5.3 kms long stretch with 6 elevated stations and executed by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

The Department of Posts, Kolkata (West Bengal circle), has established free digital parcel locker service in 2 post offices Nabadiganta IT post office of Salt Lake City & post office in New Town’s Action Area. Under this service, customers will be able to collect their parcel from the post office according to their convenience.

National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide a credit support to Bengal in Coronavirus Crisis

  • To fight with the COVID-19 pandemic, National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide a credit support of Rs 1,607 crore to West Bengal.
  • The help was provided through state cooperative banks, regional rural banks and micro-finance institutions.
  • Of the total credit flow, Rs 145 crore was given under the Rural Infrastructure and Development Fund (RIDF) to boost infrastructure in the country-side during the pandemic.

West Bengal Gov’t extends biweekly lockdown till August 31
