Chennai-Andaman and Nicobar Islands submarine cable work begins

Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the submarine cable works on laying between Chennai – Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The submarine cables will be initially laid from Chennai to Port Blair covering a distance of 1,450 kilometres. He also flagged off the ship to lay the cable at Chennai Port. At the initial stage of commissioning of the project itself, the islands can get a data speed of 400-gigabytes per second.

Lt Gen Manoj Pande appointed as Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command

Lieutenant General Manoj Pande will be appointed as the 15th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) on 1st June, the Defence Ministry said.

A Project worth Rs 44 lakhs is launched by NABARD in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, NABARD has launched development projects worth rupees 44 lakhs in order to strengthen the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat through rural entrepreneurship.
It includes the formation and development of Self-Help Groups, SHGs. The skill development of SHGs members will be taken up to promote rural entrepreneurship at the micro-level.
NABARD will conduct 385 village-level programmes and provide training to leaders of newly Shri Shripad Naik inaugurated the conference on Defence Manufacturing Technologies and Aerospace.

NABARD launches development projects worth Rs 44 lakh in A&N Islands

The apex development finance institution, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched development projects worth Rs 44 lakhs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with the aim to strengthen the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat through rural entrepreneurship.

The development projects of NABARD consist of following initiatives:

Formation and development of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and providing Skill development training to these SHGs members to promote rural entrepreneurship at the micro-level.
Women attached to SHGs in Little Andaman will be trained for Mushroom Cultivation and Bamboo Handicrafts making.
A four-month-long training program for tour and travel agents in Swaraj Dweep
Yearly Micro-Entrepreneurship Development Programme will be carried out for 150 members of various SHGs in Mayabunder in Middle Andaman.
The apex institution is also providing a platform for sales of local products by financing Rural Haats in Gram Panchayats.
Total of Rs. 7.6 lakhs have been released to establish one such Haat in Namunaghar Panchayat of South Andaman.

The exercise concentrated on interoperability and synergy among three services – Army, Navy and Air Force to maximise combat potential.

Indian Army successfully test-fired a land-attack version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory.
The supersonic cruise missile successfully hit its mark, which was on another island.
