Gujarat tops in domestic solar rooftop installations

Gujarat has topped the list for domestic solar rooftop installations with 64% of domestic solar installations. Nearly 50,915 systems being fixed on domestic rooftops in the State as on March 2, 2020. The State government of Gujarat has adopted a solar rooftop scheme “Surya Gujarat” to cover about eight lakh domestic electricity consumers under the scheme by 2022.

Byju Classes’ founder Byju Raveendran and Zomato’s co-founder Gaurav Gupta are among the five Indians named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in its new list of 115 Young Global Leaders. Raveendran, who released Byju’s as a learning app in 2015, calls himself a teacher by choice and an entrepreneur by chance. Gupta’s Zomato has been a pioneering food technology start-up, which he released as a table reservation business and then scaled it up across India, the UAE and Australia. The other three Indians on the list includes Tara Singh Vachani (CEO of Antara Senior Living), Vinati Mutreja (Managing Director and CEO, Vinati Organics Limited), Swapan Mehra (CEO, Iora Ecological Solutions).

India is ranked at the second place in Global Animal Protection Index 2020. This Index was declared by International animal welfare charity “World Animal Protection” released. India has attained a C ranking in the index. India was ranked along with Spain, Mexico, France and New Zealand. Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Austria are rated with the highest scores, which is encouraging.

  • United Nations (UN) delivered the 8th World Happiness Report 2020 to measure the happiness of people of 156 countries where India(3.573) ranks in 144th position &  Finland(7.809) tops the 3rd time.
  • The survey places the countries using Gallup World Poll, GDP levels, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom &  corruption income.

  • The “Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker” has classified India’s response to COVID-19 as one of the most stringent in the world. This data are based on tracking 73 countries.
  • This tracker is designed by researchers from the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford.

  • India has jumped up two places to rank 74th on a global energy transition index, which has ranked 115 economies on how well they are capable to balance energy security and way with environmental sustainability and affordability.

  • India captain Virat Kohli stayed the only cricketer to be involved in the list of top 100 highest-paid athletes of 2020 made forward by Forbes magazine. According to Forbes, Kohli had calculated total earnings of $26 million ($24m from endorsements and $2m from salary/winnings- June 1, 2019, until June 1, 2020).

  • Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is the only Indian star to feature on Forbes 2020 list of World’s 100 Highest-Paid celebrities. While the actor’s rank has observed a drop from last year. Forbes also showed the actor’s earning and stated that Akshay had an approximated $48.5 million earnings this year, matched to $65 million last year. From the 33rd spot, Akshay has fallen to the 52nd spot.

In THE Asia University Ranking 2020, 8 Indian institutes come into top 100

  • Time Higher Education (THE) has declared the THE Asia University Rankings 2020. 56 Indian institutes participated in the rankings this year from which eight have come in the top 100. Among the Indian institutes, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has appeared as the best with reserving its place at the 36th rank.

Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi has topped the list with 80.5 score out of 100.
