US & India conduct joint naval exercise

  • A US carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz conducted a “cooperative” exercise with Indian warships in the Indian Ocean on Monday.
  • The cooperative exercises took place near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and transited through the Indian Ocean region.

India successfully test-fires “Dhruvastra” anti-guided missiles

  • India successfully conducted the flight trial of Dhruvastra anti-guided missile at the Interim Test Range of Odisha. The trials of the helicopter launched Nag Missile (HELINA) were successful. The missile has now been renamed as “Dhruvastra”.
  • Helina is a third-generation anti-tank guided missile mounted on Advanced Light Helicopter. The missile system can engage targets indirect hit mode and attack mode.

India and US conduct joint military exercises in the Indian Ocean

  • The US and Indian navies conducted joint military operations in the Indian Ocean as both countries try to navigate tense relations with Beijing.
  • The Passage Exercise near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands involved the United States’ Carrier Strike Group (CSG) led by aircraft carrier Nimitz and units of Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet and Andaman and Nicobar Command.

  • On July 22, 2020, the Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawal, Flag Officer Commanding-in-chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC), virtually operated the 3 MegaWatt (MW) largest Solar Power Plant at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala
  • The project is a part of the Indian Government’s initiative of National Solar Mission, to attain 100 GigaWatt (GW) of solar power by 2022. 

26th of July celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas

5 Rafale multi-role combat jets arrived in India

  • A French-manufactured fleet of five Rafale multi-role combat jets arrived in India at the Ambala Air Force base. It comprises three single-seater and two twin-seater aircraft.
  • GOI signed a Rs 59,000-crore deal with French aerospace major Dassault Aviation on September 23, 2016 to procure 36 Rafale jets. The delivery of all 36 aircraft will be completed on schedule by the end of 2021.

India to participate in Kavkaz 2020 exercise in Russia

  • India will take part in the Russian Kavkaz 2020 strategic command-post exercise next month. The invitees for the exercise also include China and Pakistan apart from other member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

“Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana” launched by Defence Ministry

  • A group life insurance scheme through the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) named “Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana” launched by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for more than 10000 employees working in the 62 military cantonment areas across India.
  • The scheme will provide a cover of Rs.5 lakhs each in the event of any fatal misfortune.

IAF formally inducts Rafale fighter jets

  • The Rafale aircraft were formally inducted into the IAF with a Sarva Dharma Puja followed by an air display of the fighter jets and a water cannon salute.

First time ever Women officers to join helicopter stream of Indian Navy

  • First time ever two women officers have been selected to join as “Observers” (Airborne Tacticians) in the helicopter stream of the Indian Navy. The two women officers who will create history in the Indian Navy include-Sub Lieutenant (SLt) Kumudini Tyagi and SLt Riti Singh.

India conducts a successful flight test of ABHYAS

  • The Defence Research and Development Organization conducted a successful flight test of ABHYAS- High speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) vehicle at the Balasore test range in Odisha. This can now be used as a target for evaluation of missiles.
